Chorakuji Temple(長楽寺) is the temple where Kenreimonin was ordained.Kenreimonin was the second daughter of Taira no Kiyomori and the mother of Emperor Antoku. She was captured by the Minamoto clan at the Battle of Dannoura in 1185, where she drowned with Emperor Antoku and others.
The main deity is Kannon (Goddess of Mercy), and the temple is opened only when the emperor is enthroned.
There is a garden by Souami and a view of Kyoto city from the mountainside.
To get to Chorakuji Temple from Kyoto Station, take a 15-minute bus ride and a 10-minute walk from the bus stop.
