Hirano Shrine(平野神社) was moved from Yamato to this location with the relocation of the capital to Nagaoka-kyo and then to Heian-kyo.
Hirano Shrine is one of the best cherry blossom viewing spots in Kyoto. It has been famous since the Edo period (1603-1867) as “Hirano no Yozakura” (night cherry blossoms at Hirano Shrine). Many people visit to see the cherry blossoms illuminated at night.On April 10, the Okasai(Cherry Blossom Festival) will be held.
From Hirano Shrine, it is approximately a 3-minute walk to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine and approximately a 7-minute walk to Daihoonji Temple.
Access from Kyoto Station to Hirano Shrine takes about 30 minutes by bus.
