Rokkakudo(六角堂) is Independent Temple of the Tendai sect, officially known as Shiyunsan Tyohoji Temple.
It is said that Prince Shotoku built a hexagonal hall and enshrined the Goddess of Kannon in 587.
Rokkakudo is the abode of Ikenobo, the headmaster of the Iemoto Ikebana school of flower arrangement, and is said to be the birthplace of ikebana. It is home to the “navel stone,” also known as the center of Kyoto.
To get to Rokkakudo from Kyoto Station, take the Kyoto Municipal Subway for a 5-minute ride, or a 5-minute walk from Karasuma-Oike Station.
