Rokudochinnoji Temple(六道珍皇寺) was originally founded by Monk Keishun, Kukai’s teacher.
Next to the main hall is Takamura Takamura’s well, which is said to have been used by Takamura Onono to travel between this world and the next in order to serve the Great King Enma.
From August 7 to 10, many people visit the temple for “Rokudo mairi” to welcome the spirits (ancestral spirits). The Gojozaka Pottery Festival is held to attract the “Rokudo mairi” crowd. Today, it is the largest pottery market in Japan with approximately 500 stores.
