Tetsugaku-no-michi(哲学の道) is a walking path along the river leading to the Lake Biwa Sosui. The name “Tetsugaku-no-michi” comes from the philosopher Kitaro Nishida, who walked it while contemplating.
About 450 cherry trees are planted along the 1.8-kilometer path, making it one of the most famous cherry blossom viewing spots in Kyoto. When cherry petals fall into the waterway, the whole area turns pink.
It is so blessed with nature that fireflies can be seen in summer. In addition to cherry blossoms in spring, you can enjoy different scenery with fresh greenery in early summer, autumn leaves in fall, and snow in winter.
