Joshoji Temple(常照寺) is said to have been founded by Priest Nichiken in 1616.There is the cemetery of the second Yoshinotayu (Tokuko Matsuda) and the vermilion-lacquered mountain gate (Yoshinomon) donated by Yoshinotayu.
The “Yoshino Tayu Hanakkuyo” held every April is famous for its parade (tayu douchu) in uchi hachimonji from Genkoan to Joshoji Temple.After entering the precincts of Joshoji Temple, the memorial service and Nodate tea ceremony will be held. You can see the tayu-doju free of charge, but there is a fee for the memorial service and the nodate tea ceremony.
In May, an obi offering is held at the obi mound. Joshoji Temple is a beautiful place to enjoy the autumn leaves for free.
Access from Kyoto Station to Joshoji Temple takes about 37 minutes by bus (not including transfer time).
