About the Raknan Area

Rakunan is the south area of Kyoto City.Major tourist attractions are scattered in an inverted L shape.The Senbon-torii gate at Fushimi Inari Taisha is a popular photo spot.

Held on the 21st of each month, "Kobo-san" at Toji Temple features more than 1,000 stalls. Various items such as antiques, secondhand clothes, old tools, and food are sold.

The Rakunan area is well served by trains (JR, Kyoto Municipal Subway, Keihan and Kintetsu trains).By train (JR, Keihan, and Hankyu trains), you can travel from Kyoto to Osaka and Nara prefectures in about an hour.

The ride from Kyoto Station to Uji Station takes approximately 17 minutes.The ride from Uji Station to Nara Station takes about 30 minutes.

There are four World Heritage sites in the Rakunan area: Toji Temple, Daigoji Temple, Ujikami Shrine, and Byodoin.Toji Temple is the closest World Heritage Site to Kyoto Station.

In 1598, Toyotomi Hideyoshi held a cherry blossom viewing party at Daigoji Temple.At Toji Temple, the 120-year-old "Fuji-zakura" cherry tree will be in bloom and illuminated.

Tofukuji Temple is one of the most famous places in Kyoto for its autumn foliage, and is visited by many tourists during the foliage season. The view of “Tsutenkyo Bridge” from “Gaun Bridge” is especially spectacular.

In spring (April 29) and fall (November 3), the elegant "Kyokusui no Utage" is held at Jounangu Shrine.On the second Sunday of April, "Ho-Taiko Hanami Gyoretsu," a reenactment of the Daigo Hanami festival, is held at Daigoji Temple.
