Kiyomizudera Temple(清水寺), a World Heritage Site, is the head temple of the Northern Hōsō Sect, whose principal deity is the eleven-faced thousand-armed Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva.
The famous “Kiyomizu no Butai” (stage of Kiyomizu) (National Treasure), famous for “jumping off the stage at Kiyomizu,” is made of a 13-meter-high zelkova tree.The ray of blue light emitted from Kiyomizu Temple at night represents the mercy of Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy.
Kiyomizudera Temple is famous not only in Japan but also internationally, and is a popular temple visited by about 20% of all visitors to Kyoto.Special nighttime viewing is held during the cherry blossom season, summer, and the season of autumn leaves.Kiyomizudera Temple is beautiful with cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves in fall.
To get to Kiyomizudera Temple from Kyoto Station, it is a 15-minute bus ride and a 13-minute walk from the bus stop.
