Kozanji Temple

The World Heritage Site Kozanji Temple（高山寺） houses the famous caricatures of birds, beasts, and humans (National Treasure).The Seoksuin (National Treasure) exhibits the caricatures of birds, beasts, and humans (replica), the carved dog (by Unkei), and the Zenzai-doji.

In 1986, he made a promise to the Church of St. Francis of Assisi to become a “brother church” with the Church of St. Francis of Assisi because of the similar circumstances of Meitei Shonin (1173-1232) and St. Francis (1181-1226), who lived in the same era.Kozanji Temple has made a “brother church” commitment to the Church of St. Francis of Assisi.

Mt. Tougano is said to be the birthplace of tea, and has the oldest tea garden in Japan within its precincts.Kozanji Temple is recommended for its beautiful autumn foliage in fall. However, entrance and parking fees are required during the fall foliage season.

To get to Kozanji Temple from Kyoto Station, take the Nishinihon JR Bus for about a 50-minute ride and a 10-minute walk from Tougano bus stop.
