Sanzenin

Sanzenin(三千院) is said to have originated when Saicho Shonin built a hermitage in Todo on Mount Hiei in connection with the construction of Enryakuji Temple.

Sanzenin is famous for its autumn foliage. The view of the ponds and gardens (shuhekien/yuuseien) during the autumn foliage season is especially spectacular.

To get to Sanzenin from Kyoto Station, take Kyoto Bus No. 17 (Kyoto Station Bus Stop ⇒ Ohara Bus Stop), which takes about 1 hour, and from Ohara Bus Stop to Sanzenin Temple is a 10-minute walk.
