Sanzenin(三千院) is said to have originated when Saicho Shonin built a hermitage in Todo on Mount Hiei in connection with the construction of Enryakuji Temple.
The Oujo Gokurakuin Temple enshrines a national treasure, the Amida Triad, with a boat-bottom ceiling.Amida Nyorai (center), Avalokitesvara (right), and Seishi Bosatsu (left).
Sanzenin is famous for its autumn foliage. The view of the ponds and gardens (shuhekien/yuuseien) during the autumn foliage season is especially spectacular.
