Oubaiin(黄梅院) is the Tatchu(temple on the grounds of a large temple) of Daitokuji Temple.Oda Nobunaga built a small hermitage called “Oubaian” for the memorial service of his father Nobuhide.
In 1586, Hideyoshi Toyotomi remodeled the main hall and Karamon gate.In 1589, Takakage Kobayakawa rebuilt the bell tower, Kyakuden (guest hall), and Kururi (temple), and the name was changed to “Oubaiin”.
Hato Garden, located in the front garden of the main hall, is impressive with its white sand and green moss.Jikichu-Garden” is a pond-style dry landscape garden created by Sen no Rikyu at the age of 66.Oubaiin is normally closed to the public, but is open to the public on special occasions in spring and fall.
Access to Oubaiin from Kyoto Station takes about 35 minutes by bus.
