Ryogenin(龍源院) is the Tatchu(temple on the grounds of a large temple) of Daitokuji Temple.Founded in 1502, it is the oldest temple in Daitokuji.
Ryogenin is also known as “the moss temple of Rakuhoku.The “Isshidan” in the Hojo front garden represents the turtle island in the center, Horaiyama on the far left stone, Tsurujima on the far right stone, and the great ocean with white sand.
The foundation stones of the Juraku-dai, built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, are used in the A-Un stone garden.In the Ryugin garden, the tall stone in the center represents Mount Sumeru and the moss represents the ocean.Totekiko is the smallest Tsubo-niwa in Japan.Tsubo-niwa is a small garden surrounded by buildings.
Access to Ryogenin from Kyoto Station takes about 35 minutes by bus.
