Himukai Daijingu Shrine(日向大神宮) is said to have been built by transferring the remains of a shrine in Takachiho, Chikushi-Hyuga (Miyazaki Prefecture).
During the Heian period (794-1185), Emperor Seiwa bestowed upon the shrine the imperial tablet “Himukai-no-miya”.Amano-Iwato is up the road next to the inner shrine.
There is a trail course around Kyoto, which takes about 40 minutes to Nanzenji Temple and about 2 hours to Daimonji Mountain. Himukai Daijingu Shrine is a beautiful place for autumn leaves.
If accessing by car, enter from the Higashiyama Driveway. There is a parking lot for worshippers, but the road is narrow (about 2 meters). Walking is recommended. Walk up the approach near the raw water pump room of the former Kujoyama Water Filtration Plant.Access to Himukai Shrine is a 15-minute walk from Kyoto Municipal Subway Keage Station.
