Nanzenin

Nanzenin(南禅院) is a branch temple of Nanzen-ji Temple. It was originally the site of a detached palace of Emperor Kameyama, and is said to be the birthplace of Nanzenji Temple.

The garden is designated as one of the three most scenic and historic places in Kyoto, along with Tenryuji Garden and Kokedera Garden.

It was destroyed by fire twice, but was rebuilt by Keishoin, mother of Tsunayoshi Tokugawa.Nanzenin is located at the top of the stairs, passing through the Nanzenji Suirokaku.

To get to Nanzenin from Kyoto Station, take the Kyoto Municipal Subway for about 12 minutes (not including transfer time), and then walk about 10 minutes from Keage Station.
