Awata Shrine(粟田神社) is located at Awataguchi, one of Kyo no Nanakuchi.Kyo no Nanakuchi is the generic name for the seven typical entrances and exits of the highways leading to Kyoto.
Awata Shrine, located on a small hill, commands a panoramic view of the Otorii gate of Heianjingu Shrine, the hall of Konkai Komyoji Temple, and Mount Hiei.

To get to Awata Shrine from Kyoto Station, take the Kyoto Municipal Subway for about 10 minutes (not including transfer time), then walk about 7 minutes from Higashiyama Station.
