Honenin(法然院) is independent temple of the Jodo sect of Buddhism, and its principal deity is Amida Nyorai.
BYAKUSADAN represents water with patterns painted on it by hardening the sand, and the mind is purified by passing between them.
Honenin is a less touristy place.The garden on the grounds is free of charge.However, the interior of the building is usually closed to the public.
The building is open to the public twice a year (April 1 – April 7 and November 1 – November 7).
To get to Honenin from Kyoto Station, take a 31-minute bus ride and a 10-minute walk from the bus stop.
