Jojuji Temple(浄住寺) was founded in 810 by Jikaku Ennin (Tendai sect) at the behest of Emperor Saga.
The Hojo (not usually open to the public) is the relocated residence of Tsunamura Date, and there is a hole in the interior to allow the young Tsunamura to escape. In front of the hojo is a Muromachi period pond garden.
Rakusai, where Jojuji Temple is located, is a bamboo-growing area. In the precincts of the temple, you can see the tortoiseshell bamboo, which was used as a walking stick in the period drama Mito Komon, and the square-shaped Shiho bamboo.
