Kaiko no Yashiro(蚕の社) is a shrine associated with the Hata clan, who excelled in sericulture and weaving.It is also called Konoshima Shrine.Although the date of its founding is unknown, it is an ancient shrine that dates back at least 1,300 years.
There is a pond called “Mototadasu no Ike.”It is used as a place to purify oneself, and it is said that soaking one’s hands and feet in the summer Doyou-no-Ushi will make one free from all kinds of illnesses.The water in the pond is now dry.
There is a three-pillar torii gate, which is said to be a relic of a Christian sect (Nestorianism) that was introduced to Japan about 1,300 years ago.
To get to Kaiko no Yashiro from Kyoto Station, take a 28-minute bus ride and an approximately 4-minute walk from the Uzumasa Tenjingawa eki-mae bus stop.
