Keishunin(桂春院) is the Tatchu (temple on the grounds of a large temple) of Myoshinji Temple and was originally built in 1598 by Hidenori Tsuda (second son of Nobutada Oda) as “Kenshoin.
There are four gardens of different styles. The garden of purity is a pot garden on the north side of the hojo. The Wabi-no-niwa is an open-air garden that leads to the Kebakuan Tea House via stepping stones.
The Garden of Thought is located on the east side of the hojo, with a hill on each side, 16 arhat stones, and a foundation stone in the center that resembles a zazen (seated meditation) stone. The garden of Shinnyo on the south side of the hojo is covered with large azalea trimming and the garden stones are arranged in a 753 pattern to represent the full moon on the fifteenth night of the year.
To get to Keishunin from Kyoto Station, take a 10-minute JR train ride or a 13-minute walk from Hanazono Station.
