Kitano Tenmangu Shrine(北野天満宮), along with Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, has the status of the head shrine of the more than 10,000 Tenmangu shrines in Japan.
Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is dedicated to Sugawara Michizane, the god of learning, and many students visit the shrine every year.
It is one of the best plum blossom viewing spots in Kyoto, and the plum garden has about 1,500 plum trees of 50 varieties planted in an area of about 20,000 tsubo.Momiji-en is a recommended spot for autumn foliage.
Access to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine from Kyoto Station is by bus, about a 30-minute ride. From Randen Kitano Shiraume-cho Station, it is approximately a 7-minute walk to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine.
