Tojiin Temple

Tojiin Temple(等持院) is the family temple of the Ashikaga family.It is a temple of the Rinzai sect of Buddhism, founded in 1341 by Shogun Ashikaga as a separate temple, and belongs to the Tenryuji school.

Wooden statues of successive Ashikaga shoguns and Tokugawa Ieyasu are also enshrined.In the closing days of the Tokugawa shogunate, wooden statues of Ashikaga Takauji, Ashikaga Yoshinori, and Ashikaga Yoshimitsu were taken from Tojiin Temple, and their heads were hanged at Sanjogawara.

The garden is composed of Shinji Pond in the east and Fuyo Pond in the west in a pond-enrichment style.Tojiin Temple is a beautiful temple with beautiful autumn leaves. It is a good spot to visit because there are not many people.
