The Kyoto Railway Museum(京都鉄道博物館) is one of the largest railroad museums in Japan. Under the theme of “See, Touch and Experience,” 53 cars from steam locomotives to bullet trains are on display.
You can see everything from steam locomotives to bullet trains, and learn about the history and mechanics of railroads. There is also a driving simulator.
SL Steam-go operates (1 km round trip, about 10 minutes ride), and after the last service at 4:00 p.m., the steam locomotive is rotated on the turntable to enter the fan-shaped depot, which is recommended.
Access from Kyoto Station to the Kyoto Railway Museum takes about 2 minutes by JR train.
