Myokakuji Temple(妙覚寺) is one of the sixteen head temples of Nichiren Shu in Kyoto.
It was used as a lodging for Nobunaga Oda when he went to Kyoto, but was burned down again in the Honnoji Incident and moved to its present location.
The autumn leaves are densely planted in the garden in front of the main hall, a scene that can only be seen here. Visitors to the garden are offered tea and tea sweets. Although the garden is open to the public, it is not always possible to see the garden due to Buddhist memorial services or events, so it is advisable to contact office of a temple before visiting.
From Myokakuji Temple, it is approximately a 3-minute walk to Honpouji Temple, a 5-minute walk to Houkyoji Temple, and a 12-minute walk to Shiramine Shrine. Access to Myokakuji Temple from Kyoto Station is by bus, which takes about 25 minutes.
