Rozanji Temple(廬山寺), the head temple of the Enjo sect of the Tendai school of Buddhism. Originally, this area was the site of the Murasaki Shikibu residence, and there is a monument to Murasaki Shikibu’s poetry and a monument to the Murasaki Shikibu residence in the precincts of the temple.
Murasaki Shikibu was a female writer and poet of the mid-Heian period. She is the author of The Tale of Genji.The Tale of Genji is a long story written around 1008 during the Heian period.
On Setsubun (February 3rd), the famous Tsuina Ceremony Oni-Hogaku is held. Also known as Oni-odori, this is an event in which red ogres representing greed, blue ogres representing anger and envy, and black ogres representing foolishness and foolishness incarnate, parade into the main hall, and are driven away by the power of the goma, the bow, Houraimame (dried beans) and rice cakes.
To get to Rozan-ji Temple from Kyoto Station, take the bus for about 23 minutes and walk about 5 minutes from the bus stop.
