Sento Gosho

Sento Gosho(仙洞御所) is a palace used by emperors after they abdicate, and was first built in 1630 as the palace of Emperor Gomizunoo.Audio guides in English, French, and Chinese are available for loan (free of charge). The tour takes approximately 1 hour.

There are two ways to visit: advance application or on the day of the visit. To apply in advance, please apply by return postcard, online, or in person at the Kyoto Office of the Imperial Household Agency in the Kyoto Gyoen.

If space is available for advance registration, it will be posted at the on-site reception counter and on the Imperial Household Agency website at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the tour. Numbered tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis from around 11:00 a.m. on the day of application (*A form of identification such as a driver’s license is required at the time of distribution).

To get to Sento Gosho from Kyoto Station, it takes about 23 minutes by bus, and about 10 minutes on foot from the bus stop.
