Takiguchidera Temple

Takiguchidera Temple(滝口寺), like Gionji Temple, was once a temple within the Oujoin Temple and was called Oujoin Sanpoji Temple.

The temple later declined, but was rebuilt as Takiguchidera Temple following the revival of Gionji Temple. The name of the temple derives from the novel “Takiguchi-nyudo.

Nitta Yoshisada was killed in battle at Fujishima, Echizen Province, and his head was sent to Kyoto to be exposed.It is said that Nitta Yoshisada’s head was brought to Ojouin.

To get to Takiguchidera Temple from Kyoto Station, take the JR train for about 16 minutes, get off at Saga-Arashiyama Station, and walk about 25 minutes.
