It is said that Jojakkoji Temple(常寂光寺) was first built on this site on Mt. Ogura with a donation from the Kadokura family. The principal image is the Great Mandala of the Ten Realms.
The name of the temple is said to derive from the fact that this area had the feeling of an everlasting paradise. It is also known as the place where Ogura Hyakunin Isshu(A selection of waka poems by 100 poets, one by one.) was compiled.
The pagoda is comparable to the Kamakura-era masterpiece Ishiyama-ji’s pagoda because of its splendor.Jojakkoji Temple is famous for its autumn foliage.
