Enkoji Temple(圓光寺) is a temple of the Nanzenji school of the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism, and its principal deity is a seated statue of the thousand-armed Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva.
It has a hanging scroll of Toshogu Shrine’s sacred images of the 16 generals of the Tokugawa family, which deimg-responsives 16 generals of the Tokugawa family, deeply associated with Tokugawa Ieyasu. There is also the tomb of Ieyasu in the precincts of the shrine.
Engoji Temple has a garden named “Jugyu no Niwa” .The oldest garden pond in the north area, Seiryuchi, is located here.Enkoji Temple is a beautiful place for both fresh greenery and autumn leaves.
To get to Enkoji Temple from Kyoto Station, take a 48-minute bus ride and a 10-minute walk from the bus stop.
