Saginomori Shrine(鷺森神社) is a shrine dedicated to Susanoo-no-Mikoto.It was originally founded in the area of Seizan Myojin at the foot of Mount Hiei.It was destroyed by fire during the Onin War, but was moved to the area around the current Shugakuin Rikyu.
Sagimori Shrine is a shrine that is believed to be beneficial for family safety, travel safety, matchmaking, and the fulfillment of various wishes.
On May 5, an annual festival known as the “Sanyore Festival” (Shichirisai) is held.It is usually quiet with few tourists visiting. During the season of autumn leaves, the approach to the temple is beautifully colored.
Access to Sagimori Shrine from Kyoto Station takes about 52 minutes by bus.
