Manshuin

Manshuin(曼殊院) began when Saicho built a monastery at saito kitaya on Mount Hiei.The temple became “Monzeki Temple” after His Imperial Highness Prince Jiun entered the temple.Monzeki temples are special temples that are inherited by people from aristocratic families.

The temple owns many other temple treasures, including sliding door paintings in the Tiger Room (by Kano Eitoku) and barrier paintings in the Waterfall Room (by Kano Tanyu).

The karesansui (dry landscape) garden (a garden of scenic beauty) has “Crane Island” and “Turtle Island”.Tsurushima has a 400-year-old five-leaf pine tree with a Christian lantern (Manshuin Lantern) attached to its base.Manshuin is recommended for its beautiful autumn foliage, especially during the four seasons.

To get to Manshuin from Kyoto Station, take the bus for about 51 minutes and walk about 20 minutes from the bus stop.
