Seizanzenin(赤山禅院) is a Tendai sect temple with Seizan Myojin (Taizan Fukun) as its principal deity.Locals call it “Sekizan-san” and it is well known.It is said that if you pay a visit to the shrine on the 5th, you can often collect money, and merchants have a strong faith in the shrine.
This place is also known as the “Kimon”(The northeast, the direction from which demons come and go.) of Kyoto, a deity to protect the royal castle and ward off evil.On the roof, a kamizaru (messenger of Hiyoshi Sanno Shrine) holding a bell and carrying a gohei (sacred staff) can be seen.
Seizanzenin is the Fukurokuju of the Seven Gods of Good Fortune in Miyako (Ebisu Shrine, Toji Temple, Rokuharamitsuji Temple, Seizanzenin, Manpukuji Temple, Gyoganji Temple, and Myoenji Temple).
To get to Seizanzenin from Kyoto Station, take a 52-minute bus ride and a 20-minute walk from the bus stop.
