Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine(石清水八幡宮) is one of the three major Hachiman shrines in Japan.Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine has been revered by the Imperial Court.
The shrine was worshipped as the “god of victory,” “god of bow and arrow,” and “god of luck” by the Minamoto clan, and was frequently visited by Minamoto no Yoritomo.Locals call it “Yawata no Hachiman-san” and it is well known to them.
The main shrine is located on Otokoyama (142 meters above sea level). It can be reached on foot or by cable.The Edison Monument is dedicated to Thomas Edison, who used Yawata bamboo for the material (filament) of his carbon incandescent light bulb.
To get to Ishimizu Hachimangu Shrine from Kyoto Station, it takes about 30 minutes by JR and Keihan trains (not including transfer time). Alternatively, it takes about 22 minutes by Kintetsu and Keihan trains (not including transfer time).
