Okochi Sanso(大河内山荘) is a strolling garden created on Mt. Ogura by Denjiro Okochi, an actor in the early Showa period.
It was built by Denjiro Okochi over a period of 30 years, from the age of 34 to 64. The garden is planted with numerous pine trees, cherry trees, and maple trees, and can be enjoyed throughout the year.
Matcha (powdered green tea) seating (matcha and tea sweets are included in the worship fee) is available.From the observatory (Tsukika), you can see Mt. Hiei and Kyoto Tower.
To get to Okochi Sanso from Kyoto Station, take a 16-minute JR train ride, or a 20-minute walk from Saga-Arashiyama Station.
