The Kyoto Zoo(京都市動物園) was the second zoo to open in Japan in 1903.About 150 species of animals, including western gorillas, are kept here.
The 40,000-square-meter area includes a Ferris wheel and other facilities for children to play. Baby strollers and wheelchairs are available for rent, allowing everyone from children to the elderly to spend time at leisure. It has a restaurant, library café, store, exhibition room, and nursing room, and is well-equipped.
During the cherry blossom season, the zoo is recommended for families as they can view cherry blossoms and animals at the same time. Near the Kyoto Zoo are the Kyoto City Kyocera Museum of Art, Heianjingu Shrine, and Nanzenji Temple.
To get to the Kyoto Zoo from Kyoto Station, take the Kyoto Municipal Subway for about 12 minutes (not including transfer time) and walk about 5 minutes from Keage Station.
