Ryoginan

Ryoginan(龍吟庵) is a Tatchu(temple on the grounds of a large temple) in Tofukuji Temple.Ryuginan is usually closed to the public.

The Hojo (national treasure), built in the Muromachi period (1336-1573), is the oldest existing Hojo building in Japan.Around the hojo are the south garden “Garden of Nothingness”, the west garden “Garden of Dragons”, and the east garden “Garden of Non-eternity” by Mirei Shigemori.

The Dragon Garden represents a dragon rising to the sky from the sea, with white sand representing the sea, black sand representing black clouds, and stones representing the dragon.

To get to Ryuginan from Kyoto Station, take the JR train, which takes about 2 minutes, or a 12-minute walk from Tofukuji Station.
