Shorinji Temple

Shorinji Temple(勝林寺) is the Tatchu(temple on the grounds of a large temple) of Tofukuji Temple.The main deity is a statue of King Bishamonten, who is blessed with fortune, victory in war, and protection from bad luck.

Shorinji Temple is also called “Bishamonten of Tofukuji Temple” because it is located in “Kimon”(The northeast, the direction from which demons come and go.) of Tofukuji Temple.

Normally closed to the public, Shorinji Temple is open to the public on special occasions in spring and fall. However, if you make a reservation for 10 or more people, you can visit the temple even during the closed period. Zazen and sutra chanting are also available for even one person with a reservation.

To get to Shorinji Temple from Kyoto Station, take the JR train, which takes about 2 minutes, or an 8-minute walk from Tofukuji Station.
