Shinsenen(神泉苑) was so named because the water in the pond never dries up.Shin means god, sen means water naturally flowing out of the ground, and en means garden.
It is said that Oike Dori, which faces Shinsen-en, derives its name from the Oike pond in Shinsenen.
From Shinsenen, it is about a 6-minute walk to the World Heritage Site Nijo Castle and about a 17-minute walk to the Kyoto International Manga Museum.
To get to Shinsenen from Kyoto Station, take a 14-minute bus ride or a 6-minute ride on the Kyoto Municipal Subway (not including transfer time). Alternatively, you can take the Kyoto Municipal Subway, which takes about 6 minutes (not including transfer time).
