Mimurotoji Temple(三室戸寺) is said to have been founded by the order of Emperor Konin with Kannon as its principal deity.
It was destroyed by fire in 1573 by Oda Nobunaga. The main hall was rebuilt in 1814.The 10th of the 33 temples in the western part of Japan.
The garden is planted with 20,000 azalea plants (seen in May), 1,000 rhododendrons (seen from April to May), and 10,000 hydrangeas (seen in June).
To get to Mimurotoji Temple from Kyoto Station, take JR Kyoto Station to Uji Station (about 17 minutes). Kyoto Keihan Bus (40/40A) Uji Station bus stop ⇒ Monzen bus stop (approx. 11 min. ride), approx. 8 min. walk from Monzen bus stop.
