Rengeji Temple(蓮華寺) is a Tendai sect temple with Shakanyorai as its principal deity.Originally an old temple of the Jodo sect, it was devastated during the Onin War.
In 1662, Chikayoshi Imaeda, a retainer of the Kaga clan, is said to have moved the temple to this location and rebuilt it to mourn his family’s loss.
The garden, with its pond garden, is beautifully landscaped and famous for its autumn foliage.Students under junior high school age on school excursion are not allowed to visit the temple.
Access from Kyoto Station to Rengeji Temple takes about 42 minutes by bus.
