Hogonin

Hogonin(宝厳院) is the Tatchu (temple on the grounds of a large temple) of Tenryuji Temple.In 2002, it was moved to its current location and opened to the public for the first time in 140 years. It is still usually closed to the public, but is open to the public on special occasions in spring and fall.

The main deity is Sho-Kannon Bosatsu (not open to the public).The 33 statues of Kannon Bosatsu (not open to the public) are enshrined in the temple, and it is said to be equivalent to making a pilgrimage to the 33 temples in the western part of Japan.

Shishiku no Niwa” is a strolling garden with Arashiyama in the background.Shishiku means “Buddha preaching.

To get to Hogonin from Kyoto Station, take a 16-minute JR train ride and a 10-minute walk from Saga-Arashiyama Station.
