Kogenji Temple(弘源寺) is the Tatchu (temple on the grounds of a large temple) of Tenryuji Temple. It was originally founded by Hosokawa Mochiyuki in 1429.
The temple was destroyed by fire many times, but in 1882, it was joined with “Ihoku Ken” and has remained to the present day.Normally closed to the public, it is open to the public on special occasions in spring and fall.
Kosho-no-niwa is a karesansui (dry landscape) garden with white sand and vivid greenery, with Arashiyama in the background.On the pillar, there is a sword wound where a Choshu clan soldier tried to cut it.
To get to Kogenji Temple from Kyoto Station, take a 16-minute JR train ride and a 10-minute walk from Saga-Arashiyama Station.
