Rokuoin

Rokuoin(鹿王院) was originally built in 1380 by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, who dreamed that he could prolong his life if he built a temple here, as the Tatchu (temple on the grounds of a large temple) of Daifukuden Hodoji.Hodoji was destroyed by fire during the Onin War, but only Rokuoin remained.

The name Rokuoin comes from the wild deer that appeared in herds.There is a garden centering on the Shariden with a borrowed view of Arashiyama.

Rokuoin is a very quiet place and a great spot in the Arashiyama area.Shukubo (women only), where the general public can stay, have been established.Shukubo are lodging facilities at temples.

To get to Rokuoin from Kyoto Station, take a 16-minute JR train ride and a 7-minute walk from Saga-Arashiyama Station.
